SCOPE 

The Director of Operations is responsible for the performance of all operational and warehouse functions. The incumbent shall provide strategic leadership to meet and optimize established levels of business performance objectives, assigned and targeted critical metrics, service, productivity, and quality in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values, striving towards Centres of Excellence and standards in the EMS industry and within the operations functions. This critical leadership role shall partner effectively with Operations and Warehouse leaders, Planners, Production Management leaders, team members across Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Human Resources, Sales/Business Development, Program Management, Document Control, and other business units to support and drive continuous improvements and Company successes and high-quality caliber EMS product outcomes. 

This highly organized and expert planner provides strategic and day-to-day leadership to team members, employees, and business processes within all Vexos Markham manufacturing EMS facilities. The incumbent owns results against the facility’s Key Performance Indicators, which include but are not limited to: on-time/shipped-complete order delivery and other customer satisfaction metrics; cost reduction/continuous improvement and other measures of financial performance and operational efficiency; safety, health and environmental company policy and regulatory compliance; and the selection, development, retention, and direction of all Markham Operations employees to achieve and sustain a high-performance, customer-focused, safe, and inclusive workplace. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Understand and stay current with Vexos business requirements, and refines them to specific production and warehouse deliverables 
  • Partner and collaborate with Management Team Heads, the Plant SVP and General Manager and other critical key stakeholders to formulate and set strategies, policies, metrics, and performance targets for Production and Warehouse 
  • Develop and maintain aggressive and effective plans for meeting Production and Warehouse goals and expectations 
  • Communicate Production and Warehouse status on an on-going basis to functional and business management and ensure that leaders stay appropriately engaged, updated, and informed with critical or urgent/timely Production, Warehouse and/or operational issues 
  • Representative as the single business focus for Production and Warehouse matters or issues 
  • Is a key leader and conduit/contact for Program Management and Business Development on all shipments 
  • Management of Operations and Warehouse Team:
    • Planning and implementation of changes to the production/warehouse structure to ensure present and future requirements are maintained 
    • Determine and set goals for production; monitor and make necessary operational and warehouse team changes to achieve goals
    • Monitor and manage the activities of the Production Supervisors and Warehouse Leaders to ensure proper utilization of all resources on the factory floor (i.e., human capital, time, materials, staffing, manpower) 
    • Prioritize production and warehouse shipping and receiving schedules based on manpower allocation, equipment efficiency, and material availability 
    • Work with HR to monitor and evaluate staffing needs for different production and warehouse teams to implement hiring and recruitment activities effectively 
    • Facilitate and complete performance reviews and evaluations of Production Supervisors and Warehouse Leaders 
    • Coach/Mentor/Assist Production and Warehouse Leaders with performance reviews 
    • Interface with Sales and Purchasing to determine customer needs and requirements, and material availability 
    • Interact with Quality and Engineering teams for any and all Manufacturing Support items 
    • Coordinate with the HR team to assess, develop, and maintain an employee training program for proficient manufacturing skills 
  • Promote Continuous Improvement through support of Lean manufacturing programs including but not limited to: Visual Stream Mapping, Visual Factory, Six Sigma, and 5S 
  • Work with cross-functional teams in a matrix environment: 
  • Ensure full compliance with local and applicable provincial legislation for safety, health, environmental compliance, export compliance and financial accountability, as well as to the quality standards (ISO 9001, ISO 13485, etc.) and other regulatory compliance requirements 
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, vision, values, philosophy, and culture of Vexos and ensure that the Markham facilities operate consistently with these organizational values 
  • Represent the business in key customer, community and industry events or associations 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

  • 7-10 years of successful and progressively broader Operations, Production and/or Warehouse leadership experience in electronics manufacturing or a similar industry, preferably across multiple functions (e.g., manufacturing, supply chain, etc.) 
  • Experience in product introduction and change management (development, industrialization, or similar) in EMS and/or a mid to low volume electronics OEM 
  • Deep knowledge of electronic manufacturing processes including PCBA (SMT/Through Hole), Systems Level Box-Build, and Test Methodologies 
  • Proven ability to build and lead a high-performance team focusing on enhancing the customer value proposition and supported by process and performance measurement best practices 
  • Deep understanding and experience in Supply Chain Management practices including, but not limited to EMS interaction, inventory controls, cost-out activities through sourcing and vendor consolidation, as well as efficient line loading and planning. 
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of Shop Floor Management Controls and ERP systems 
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding in Lean Manufacturing and 5S implementation and maintenance 
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/ISO 13485 Quality systems and ESD control 
  • Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with a proven track record to put ideas/proposals across to others effectively 
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to develop others: teach and coach 
  • Proactive and good team player 
  • Excellent command of the English language – written and spoken 
  • Excellent organizational, time management & project management skills 
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving skills and decision-making skills 
  • Good work habits and housekeeping 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • BA/BS Degree in Engineering and/or Business-related disciplines 
  • Formal Training and/or Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma 

LOCATION 

  • The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing, working in, and managing operations, warehouse, and production across two (2) Markham facilities, Building A and Building B 

WORK HOURS 

The Director of Operations’ normal hours of work and schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. This position is critical to our business operations and oversees and manages team members across 3 shifts, days (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM), afternoons (3:30 PM – 12:00 AM) and nights (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM). The ideal candidate will have a willingness to work hours as needed based on critical business needs; this includes flexing their time to work later during the week, coming in overnight or working on weekends as required.
